Can hemp shampoo make you fail a drug test?

Hemp shampoo includes hemp oil as the key ingredient. Hemp oil is a hemp extract shown to have several benefits to the hair and the scalp. Using hemp products can only make you fail drug tests if you’re using products not regulated by federal law. Hemp itself contains as low as 0.3% THC, a psychoactive substance. Therefore, regular use of hemp shampoo or any other hemp product won’t show positive results for THC on your drug test.

Hemp products are rapidly gaining popularity. They are available on various online platforms and retail stores. However, this is not the case in the U.S., where the market for hemp products is quite new. The laws also seem quite confusing – they often vary from one state to another and are contrary between states and federal. So, it can be quite challenging to know the legality and sale of hemp products.

What is hemp?

Hemp’s famousness is due to its essential benefits and valuable substance that can be obtained from it. Also referred to as "industrial hemp," hemp is a member of the cannabis sativa family. Marijuana also belongs to the same family but contains a higher THC level than hemp. And that’s what defines these two cannabis plants. In other words, hemp contains little to no THC, while marijuana is high in THC.

Rather than THC, hemp contains a high level of cannabidiol (CBD), one among hundreds of cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. CBD is not psychoactive and therefore cannot make you “high.” Therefore, hemp-derived products are safe.

Since it's highly nutritious, hemp may serve as human and livestock food. Hemp seed oil is one of the most used recipes and can be used as a potent source of plant protein.

What is hemp shampoo?

Hemp shampoo is a hemp-based hair product believed to relieve several hair-related problems.

Hemp composition

Despite being a member of the cannabis sativa family, hemp does not have a psychoactive effect. This cannabis plant contains protein, fiber, and fatty acids. Additionally, it has antioxidant properties and can help reduce symptoms of several ailments. So, the following are the major constituents of hemp:

Protein

Hemp, particularly seeds, are high in protein. Three tablespoons of hemp seed contain 9.46 g of protein. As a potent source of protein, hemp can produce all nine amino acids.

Unsaturated fat

Hemp contains a high level of omega 3-6 fatty acids. And since these unsaturated fats cannot be produced by the body, they must be absorbed from the diet.

Minerals and vitamins

Hemp contains an array of vitamins, including:

  • Vitamin E
  • Magnesium
  • Phosphorous
  • Potassium
  • Calcium

It is also rich in iron, zinc, and B vitamins like:

  • Niacin
  • Riboflavin
  • Thiamine
  • Vitamin B-6
  • Folate

CBD

The hemp plant and any other cannabis plant contain CBD and many other cannabinoids. Most importantly, CBD benefits do not change, whether hemp or cannabis-derived. Additionally, the side effects also remain the same. That's because the chemical formation of CBD doesn't depend on the plants it's extracted from.

The hemp plant is high in CBD, making it an ideal ingredient for manufacturing many care products and the options with less legal consequences. The legal status is what distinguishes hemp CBD and cannabis. Products are considered legal across USA states if they’re aligned with the legal standards of hemp.

Under this statute, products derived from plants with high THC levels are considered illegal. As a reminder, CBD products should have little to no THC. Even products from cannabis-derived CBD must contain this THC level (0.3%). And that’s what makes hemp shampoo the safest hair product.

Hemp oil (for hemp shampoo)

Hemp oil and hemp seed oil are two different hemp extracts. While hemp oil is extracted from hemp stalks and leaves, hemp seed oil is extracted from hemp seeds. So, to know whether you can fail a drug test, it is important to learn about the composition or what is contained in these two essential oils. However, still, you won't fail the drug test exam by using products based on either of the two oils. Being hemp extracts, both hemp seed oil and hemp oil contain low THC levels.

Hemp oil has a wide range of benefits. It is important for the skin, nails, and hair and helps reduce inflammation. Additionally, hemp oil can promote cardiovascular health and help relieve pain and muscle stress.

Hemp oil is produced by pressing raw hemp seeds. The process is similar to the extraction of olive oil from olives.

What is hemp shampoo?

Hemp shampoo is a hemp-based hair product believed to promote healthy hair growth. Considering the nutrient content in hemp or hemp oil, it is safe to conclude that hemp shampoo means goodies for both the hair and the scalp.

Hemp shampoo contains hemp oil as the key ingredient. Hemp oil is extracted from hemp seeds and contains several benefits. It is the perfect replacement for traditional oils and contains antioxidants, calcium, manganese, potassium, vitamin A & E, zinc, and omega 3-6 fatty acids.

Can it make you fail a drug test?

The short answer is "NO." that's since hemp shampoo is one of those many products derived from hemp. Hemp products are all considered safe and legal. And that’s due to low THC level. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is what drives people "crazy." For a cannabis-based product to be considered legal, it must contain less than 0.3% THC. Hemp shampoo includes hemp oil as the main ingredient. And since hemp oil is a hemp extract, hemp shampoo cannot make you fail a drug test, whether you are using it regularly or too much.

The bottom line

What makes people fail a drug test is a psychoactive substance, THC. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is what gives marijuana its ability to make people "high," and that's the reason for the drug test. A drug test is done, mainly to find out whether you've used illegal cannabis substances or not. Hemp shampoo being a hemp-derived product, contains little to no THC. Therefore, hemp shampoo cannot make you fail a drug test, no matter how often you use it.
