CAN I DRIVE AFTER CBD MASSAGE?

CBD research is growing daily and comes in different forms, such as gummies, vapes, and seltzers. Cannabinoids are used more for body relaxation than some medical treatment. However, the food and drug administration FDA is quite skeptical because of the side effects associated with CBD stating it is not good when behind the wheel even if it cannot get you high. Tetrahydrocannabinol THC is a chemical compound in marijuana responsible for the psychoactive property that gives you a high feeling. Although CBD is also an active ingredient of cannabis, its effects on the body and the mind are very different from THC; they range from anti-inflammatory to anti-anxiety.

There has been several research carried out, and it was found that there was an increase in road accidents in 2018; However, the study could not connect them to potential alcohol use; a 2020 study connected chronic THC use which impaired driving skills, particularly in teenagers who started using drugs before the age of 16. THC and driving are not compatible because of the mind-altering effect.

 What is CBD

Cannabidiol CBD is a chemical compound found in the cannabis and hemp plant alongside THC tetrahydrocannabinol. They both have a therapeutic effect when used, but the difference is THC has the psychoactive property, which gives the user the ‘high feeling’. There are three types of CBD, including the full and broad-spectrum and CBD isolate. The full-spectrum CBD is the type of CBD that contains all the compounds found on the hemp plant, including THC. The broad-spectrum has all the content from the hemp plant except for the THC, while their CBD isolate, also known as the pure CBD, has no other compounds from the plant. It is 99.9% CBD, and it always comes in the form of powder or clear crystal.

Can CBD affect your driving skills?

CBD effect on driving is still ongoing since the issue FDA hinted that there are some ways where CBD will not translate well when it comes to driving. According to Legal (2020), taking any CBD product before and while driving because they assert that it can cause drowsiness and sedation, thus causing accidents. Therefore, the connection of CBD to tempering with driving skills is still an open subject.

 The Science Of Drowsy Driving

CBD effects when behind the wheel have so little to its cannabinoid status. According to Dos Santos et al. (2020), this goes back to its extraction, linked to the mild sedative effect proposed. Also, people were reported to use CBD to improve their sleep quality. Some sedative effect was noted and documented in previous studies, although it had the effect when taken at a high dose.

Shannon& Opila-Lehman (2015) showed that  CBD and driving connect to the study of the drowsy drugs, including the sleep aids, and their effects on driving are clear. Pagel et al.  (2018) explained that adults using anti-depressants such as trazodone, sleep aid (temazepam), and zolpidem, commonly known as Ambien, tend to have an increased chance of having car accidents. Still, most of the results were on Ambien users. Therefore, Ambien users are likely to cause accidents compared to those who don’t use the drugs.  Drugs like Ambien, which can knock the user out at night, and CBD are different. The sedative effect found in CBND is always mild; however, the slightest connection between CBD and drowsiness is worth researching because it might cause users to be less alert when on the road.

The CBD   massage oil is applied to the skin. Therefore, it is used topically, which can get the user some skin health benefits such as eczema, acne, psoriasis, and even dry skin.  Conclusion

There are some myths about CBD and driving, which is the idea that CBD can modulate THC’s negative effects. However, research confirms that it might be misunderstood and can be passed on to unsuspecting cannabis patients and consumers. A study was carried out on 14 participants who vaped 125 milligrams of CBD and THC equal concentrates and plaid a stimulating game where they were subjected to GPS instruction on the road. It was noted that they swerved a lot during their driving and were altered up to 4 hours later. Therefore, it is good for CBD consumers to make their own choices.
