Storing CBD oil and its supplements is quite easy. Store it in a cool and dry place so that extreme temperatures won't affect its quality. Consider leaving it in its original opaque container. Avoid exposing it to direct light, both natural and artificial. Confirm that it is tightly closed after use to minimize oxidation.
CBD oil is derived from organic hemp plant extracts and manufactured in various types to meet users' demands. The three types of CBD oil are differentiated using various elements of the hemp plant-incorporated. The types include full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate CBD. Besides, the hemp plant elements are terpenes, flavonoids, cannabidiol (CBD), and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The elements manufacture CBD tinctures, gummies, topicals, and vape products. Also, some brands incorporate various elements such as MCT oil to improve CBD oil quality and shelf life. After buying CBD oil, the following tips will help you store it conveniently.
Where it’s stored determines the duration it will last before spoiling. Here are some of the top three tips that will help store CBD oil appropriately for durability.
Find a cool place and keep them there. A cool place means being away from direct heat. Raikos et al. (2015) suggested that exposing CBD oil to heat degrades its quality and effectiveness. It reduces its lifespan. CBD oil lasts for at most two years when refrigerated or stored in a dry and cool place. Avoid keeping it near appliances that generate heat that might interfere with the CBD oil. Refrigerating it would be the best option. However, after refrigerating, it solidifies. Keep it at room temperature, and it will liquefy, ready for use. Keep it away from artificial and natural light, which acts as heat.
Most people find it convenient to keep their CBD oil close to their windows. That wouldn't work best since you will be exposing it to direct sunlight or UV rays. According to Biemacki et al. (2021), this will heat the CBD oil, making them lose the cannabinoid contents completely. Most companies store CBD oil in an opaque bottle to limit it from exposure to direct sunlight. Leave the CBD oil in its original container.
Avoid allowing air to get in the oil. Exposing CBD oil to oxygen interferes with its effectiveness since oxidation will occur. This results in a chemical imbalance of the CBD oil, interfering with its quality and effectiveness. This can be avoided.
Allowing air to get to the CBD oil offers a platform for the chemical reaction that might interfere with its quality. Also, closing it tightly limits oxidation.
The quality determines its shelf life. Poor quality CBD oil takes a shorter time before going bad, unlike high quality. Therefore, how do you determine the quality of CBD hemp oil? It is simple, start by checking the quality of hemp used to craft it. Quality hemp is cultivated without artificial fertilizers and pesticides. According to Malone et al. (2019), the best hemp in the US is obtained from Colorado, Kentucky, and Oregon. Ensure the CBD oil is void of contaminants such as solvents and heavy metals.
The blended ingredients determine its shelf life. Consider CBD oil crafted using organic elements only. One of the commonly used appropriate elements is MCT oil. It is an organic element, also called coconut oil. According to Otsuika et al. (2016), MCT oil contains unique properties such as bioavailability features that improve the rapid effectiveness of CBD oil since it speeds up absorptions. Avoid CBD oil manufactured using artificial preservatives since they interfere with its quality.
There are various ways of obtaining hemp plant extracts to craft CBD products. CO2 and ethanol are the most common ones. Although ethanol is effective, it leaves solvents that contaminate CBD oil. Most brands prefer CO2 since it minimizes contamination of the environment and the end products.
Research by McGregor et al. (2020) issued an analysis regarding the storage of CBD capsules. Other research compiled the following few steps that could be useful for capsules consumers:
Consider the storage form if you have CBD oil or supplements and are concerned about their shelf life. If you wish to maintain their quality for at least one year, refrigerate them. However, you can store them in a cool and dry place. Always confirm that you have closed it tightly after use to avoid oxidation and other chemical reactions. Also, store it in a cool and dry area. Lastly, avoid exposure to light or heat, even from the appliances.
