The cannabis industry has experienced growth since the legalization of hemp for CBD production, with numerous products claiming to solve health issues. It might be confusing when deciding which CBD product to buy. This article will guide you on the benefits of full-spectrum CBD oil.
CBD is a phytocannabinoid extracted from hemp using various safe and efficient techniques. This cannabinoid is mainly extracted from the leaves and flowers. It stems from the hemp plant, unlike hempseed oil extracted from mature hempseed. Depending on the extraction method used, it will result in CBD extracts, i.e., full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolates. These extracts vary in their composition and their concentration of cannabinoids which directly influences the type of benefits one accrues from administering them. CBD has been touted to be effective against inflammation, anxiety, and other illnesses. This article discusses the benefits of full-spectrum organic CBD oil.
Full-spectrum organic CBD oil, or known as full-spectrum CBD, is a hemp extract that contains all the compounds from hemp, even THC, though in very little amounts. In particular, it contains other cannabinoids such as CBG, CBDV, CBC, and trace amounts of THC. The amount of THC allowed in full-spectrum is limited to 0.3% by the Federal government in the U.S and 0.2% in the U.K. Moreover, it contains other compounds, such as terpenes and flavonoids, which bolster its effectiveness in the body. Full-spectrum is sometimes referred to as organic CBD oil. It does not undergo numerous processing to either alter its composition or add other compounds. It is touted to be the most beneficial of the three types of CBD extracts. Some of the benefits include:
CBD is known to interact with the body through the endocannabinoid system to give the user its benefits. The ECS, endocannabinoid system, is a group of receptors, enzymes, and endocannabinoids regulating homeostatic body functions. Specifically, Sun et al. (2019) explained how CBD interacts with the ECS through various receptors such as TRPV1 and delta 1 receptors to alter pain reception. In addition to CBD, other cannabinoids found in full-spectrum oils such as CBG and CBN bolster the working of CBD in making it effective against pain. Terpenes such as beta-caryophyllene are also known to alleviate pain. Full-spectrum CBD may be more effective in pain management than CBD isolates containing no other compounds. This makes it effective, especially when used after workouts to help ease muscle pain. It may also be used by patients who have arthritis to alleviate chronic pain.
The modern environment is riddled with stressful environments that may hamper one from getting enough sleep. Constant stress and depression may lead one to suffer from insomnia, making it difficult for individuals to fall asleep easily or maintain sleep throughout the night. Anxiety, stress, and depression are among some of the major causes of insomnia. Full-spectrum CBD can aid in promoting sleep by reducing these levels of anxiety and stress on the brain. D'souza et al. (2008) reported that Full-spectrum CBD binds to endocannabinoid receptors to regulate the amount of cortisol produced in the brain. Cortisol is a stress-inducing hormone, and high levels in the brain may hamper sleep. Thus, full-spectrum CBD can be used just before going to bed or taken with food at dinner to reduce cortisol levels in the brain. In addition, one may use full-spectrum CBD in the early morning hours. During this time, there are high levels of cortisol in the brain. Thus, utilizing CBD early in the morning may improve an individual's mood as they wake up.
The skin is the largest external organ found in the body that protects internal organs from pathogens and environmental damage. It also performs other functions such as excretion of waste products and body temperature regulation. This makes it susceptible to damage from the environment and germs causing infection. However, the skin has abundant ECS receptors found throughout the body. Cream (2020) showed that Full-spectrum CBD contains antioxidants that may help in reducing free radical damage from the environment, especially from the sun. Terpenes such as myrcene contain antibacterial and analgesic properties that may be useful in fending off germs and microbial infection.
On the other hand, Limonene has antifungal properties useful in preventing fungal skin infections. Baswan et al. (2020) Caryophyllene and CBD interact with the ECS and can regulate sebum secreted by the skin. Overproduction of sebum can lead to chronic acne if not treated early enough. Therefore, CBD can be applied topically to regulate sebum production, thus preventing acne.
It is common to be stressed during work hours due to an overload of tasks to be completed. Other scenarios, such as public speaking, can induce anxiety in different individuals. Anxiety can cause many other issues in the body, such as lowering body immunity, causing loss of appetite, headaches, and irregular heartbeats. These issues may hamper one from working effectively, thus lowering their performance levels. Blessing et al. (2015) supported CBD as an acute treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, OCD, and PTSD.
Similarly, human evidence supports CBD's anxiolytic role but is limited to acute dosing and few studies in clinical populations. Determining the long-term and therapeutic effects of CBD in relevant clinical populations is required to assess its efficacy in treating multiple anxiety disorders. Full-spectrum CBD contains Limonene which is known to be effective in curbing anxiety. In addition, linalool, one of the terpenes present in full-spectrum CBD, is commonly used in aromatherapy to reduce anxiety. These compounds work hand in hand, producing the entourage effect, which may improve the overall efficacy of full-spectrum CBD and alleviate some of the side effects of THC.
Full-spectrum CBD is a hemp extract that contains all the compounds from hemp after the extraction process making it fully organic. It contains other cannabinoids, including THC but in limited amounts. In addition, it also contains terpenes and flavonoids, which give it its hue and aroma but may be beneficial in improving the benefits of full-spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum CBD has benefits such as improving skin health, reducing anxiety, neuroprotective protective properties, improving sleep, and potential treatment against various mental issues.
