CBD is the new talk of the skincare world nowadays. It is intriguing, full of secrets, and buzzy. This ingredient which is stated as a wellness supplement has crossed over to the beauty world. However, it is not that simple to know what products offer the legitimate CBD, or is it a counterfeit?
Many people tend to confuse which one to start with. Should they start with the CBD moisturizer then CBD serum, or vice versa? In this article, the reader will get to know what comes first and how to apply your skincare routine in the right order.
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a compound that is found in the cannabis plant. The user can't get 'high' because it doesn’t contain the THC compound present in cannabis, which is responsible for someone getting 'high'. According to Garcia et al. (1999), a natural compound is found in the cannabis plant. Among hundreds of compounds in the plant, THC and CBD are the main compounds. CBD is known to have calming and relaxing effects while Niesink et al. (2013) explained that THC offers its users psychoactive effects which are the high effect. Many people prefer CBD because of its euphoric effects. We have three major types of CBD i.e. Pure CBD which is called the CBD isolate, Broad-spectrum CBD, and Full spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum CBD contains less than 0.3% of THC and has all the other compounds of the cannabis plant. Broad-spectrum CBD contains most compounds of the cannabis plant except THC. CBD isolate has only the CBD compound. Research is yet to be intensified on the benefits of CBD, however, there are numerous products made from CBD to fulfill the know functions of CBD. We have CBD topicals that are applied on the skin, CBD tinctures, vapes, and edibles. These are some of the ways one can use CBD.
According to Shovan (2017), the two major causes of aging skin, hyperpigmentation, and acne are inflammation brought about by the endocannabinoid system(ECS) and radical destruction of the epidermis. The endocannabinoid system is a formation of matrix cell receptors whose function is to balance nearly all skin functions. Battista & Di Tommaso (2012) stated that the endocannabinoid system plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis. Although research is still underway, the available findings pack up the already present findings. Producing sebum in large amounts makes one likely to suffer from acne. CBD has anti-inflammatory effects on melanocytes, which are skin cells responsible for the production of sebum. Moreover, CBD has a soothing effect that helps one deal with pain and inflammation.
This step most of us are aware that comes first. However, it depends on whether it is in the morning or at night. If your skin type is dry, do not clean the skin two times a day since it will take most of your skin's natural oil which is scarce. What you need to do is splash your face with lukewarm water after waking up in the morning. If you have an oily skin type, all that you need is a hydrating cleanser since it helps in controlling any excess shine that you may have developed during the night.
At night, it is advisable to begin a skincare routine with a double cleanse. The first clean helps in removing makeup, dirt, and SPF. The second clean is to clean your skin generally. Most people use face wipes to remove makeup but it is not advised since they can be too harsh on our skin. That is why oil cleansers are better since they are very quick in dissolving those stubborn makeups and oils and they do not cause skin irritation.
Dry skin types should stay away from foaming cleansers since they cause over-drying of the skin. It is advised to use milky and creamy cleansers since they will do the job and not strip the skin of its needed oils.
Oily and normal skin types should use cleansers that contain ingredients such as salicylic acid since they help in clearing blemishes. Avoid cleansers that contain sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate. Instead, look for moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid since they help in regulating the production of oil too.
After cleansing your skin, toning comes after. Toners help in treating skincare concerns that you may be facing. Hydrating toners are the best since they help in providing the skin with moisture just after cleansing, hence keeping your skin dewy and plump.
This step is where you get to use your CBD face serum. You should use your serum before using your moisturizer and after toning. The CBD serum contains important ingredients that help moisturize and hydrate your skin. It also contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which may help in treating acne and lessen aging respectively. The CBD face serum is packed with many benefits for your skin. It also helps in regulating the oil production in the sebocytes glands which may lead to acne and dryness when overproduced and under-produced respectively. Try using the CBD face serum in your daily skincare routine.
After using the CBD face serum, you can now use a moisturizer afterward. The moisturizer helps in sealing the ingredients and also draws moisture into your skin. In your skincare routine, let your face oil be the last step. In case you prefer using the oil first before a moisturizer, use dry oils such as grape seed oil or even jojoba seed oil since they are lightweight hence making them fast-absorbing. Heavy oils such as avocado oil should be used before the moisturizer. If you are not sure whether the oil is light or heavy, first apply it to the skin if after a few minutes you feel it in your skin, then it’s heavier oil.
Applying sunscreen is a very important part of your morning routine. Never skip using sunscreen in your routine.
Applying sunscreen should be the last step in your routine before you apply make-up. Even if the moisturizer contains SPF, make sure to use sunscreen separately. Various researches show that the SPF in your moisturizer is not as efficient in protecting your skin as that in your sunscreen. Wearing sunscreen is important even during winter. This is because UV rays still can penetrate through the window and clothes leading to damage and premature aging of the skin.
Always remember to use a serum before using a moisturizer. This is because the moisturizer helps in sealing the ingredients present in your serum so that your skin may acquire the best possible benefits. You should consider using thebe face serum in your skincare routine because of the benefits that it contains. Its benefits consist of relieving inflammation lessening aging and wrinkles and it is naturally hydrating too.
