Why Exfoliate Your Skin With Face Scrub Before Applying Your Face Mask?

Face masks and scrubs are used widely as skin care products. Most people have invested in skin care products. Taking care of your skin is essential and is not as hard as many think.

Taking care of your skin is essential. Many products can be used on the face, including face wash, moisturizers, masks, and scrubs. All these products, when used together, can make you achieve your desired skin texture. However, most people wonder if face scrubs and masks are important. However, they play a vital role that other skin care products cannot.  Exfoliation involves shedding off of dead cells using physical or chemical processes for radiant skin. This makes them essential for you to have youthful, healthy skin. Below are reasons why exfoliating your skin with face scrubs before applying your face mask is essential.

    What is a Face Mask?

    Face masks are skin care products designed to remove dead skin cells and leave the skin healthy, clean, and fresh. There are three types of face masks. They include;

    Mud and Clay Masks

According to Mohiuddin (2019), mud and clay face masks are ideal for people with sensitive, oily, and dry skin types since they go deep into the skin pores and absorb oil and dirt. This guarantees deep cleaning.

    Cream Masks

They are great for dry skin that seems dehydrated since they will give the skin more moisture and smoothness.

    Gel Mask

They ensure the skin is well hydrated apart from and can work best for all skin types.

    Face Scrub

They are also called exfoliants. They are skin care products that serve the same purposes as face masks but in different ways. Exfoliants can be synthetic or natural; they are important since they remove the dead skin cells and build up oil and dirt from the skin surface, allowing the turnover process to occur. According to Gonzales & Fuchs (2017), the turnover process is where healthy cells are generated by the skin, replacing the dead ones, giving the skin a clean, clear, smooth, and healthy surface. Face scrubs are divided into two. They can be manual or physical face scrubs with chemicals that dissolve the dead skin. The skin produces sebum, the natural oil found in the skin. The oil helps keep the skin hydrated and smooth. However, when produced excessively, it might clog the pores and cause inflammation. Therefore, using face scrubs to remove excess oil and unclog pores is good. It is advisable to exfoliate the skin twice a week; more than this will irritate the skin and cause breakouts,

    Face Mask and Scrubs

They both serve the same purposes, but they should be used concurrently for better results. Moreover, they can give you the best and desired results. They both remove the dead skin, oil, and dirt from the skin surface. However, the face scrubs goof on the skin surface while masks go deeper into the skin.

Why You Should Exfoliate Your Skin Before Applying the Face Mask

Below are reasons to exfoliate your skin before using the face mask.

Clears The Skin By Removing Dead Cells

The upper layer of the skin, the epidermis, is made up of dead cells, making a barrier for the products to be effective. However, skin cells regenerate through desquamation. According to Talpekar & Borikar (2016), exfoliating the skin helps clear the surface off the dead skin. Exfoliating cleans the skin by massaging the skin in a few circles.

    It Unmasks the Inner Beauty

Exfoliating the skin allows the turnover process to occur; this makes it easy when applying the face mask, thus having more comfortable, healthy, and glowing skin.

How To Choose a Face Scrub For Your Skin

People have different skin types, making it important to know your skin type when purchasing any skin care product. This will help you avoid purchasing a product that will harm your skin. There are four types of skin; oily, normal, sensitive, and dry skin. Choosing a face scrub for your skin type varies with the ingredients used.

    Oily Skin

If you have this type of skin, you should avoid using products with more oil that can clog the pores, such as coconut oil. According to Talpekar & Borikar (2016), exfoliating the skin will be a way of making the skin healthy and removing the excess oil that can clog the pores. Face scrubs also contain essential oil, which is beneficial to the skin. Flower and fruit extracts such as pineapple and apricot can work best. Also, consider having salicylic acid in the product because of its ability to fight acne.

    Normal Skin

Consider having cucumber extract, menthyl lactate, and vitamin B3 to energize the skin. Like any other skin type, normal skin needs care to glow and be healthy. Do not put anything on the skin since you have normal skin. Exfoliate it at least twice or once a week.

    Sensitive Skin

Chose a face product with willow bark extract because of its antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. This will help in fighting acne.

    Dry Skin

According to Bensadoun et al. (2013), it is important to take care of dry skin by practicing various routines. Your skin is already dry, and exfoliating will make it more dehydrated; therefore, it is good to consider having a face scrub that is creamy and full of moisturizers to keep the skin smooth and hydrated. Using face scrubs makes the face lose moisture, so it is advisable to reduce the number of exfoliations to once a week. After exfoliating, use enough skin moisturizers.

How to Use a Face Scrub

Know Where to Apply the Product

Face scrubs remove dirt and dead cells from the skin surface. They can be used on the body or face; therefore, use the face scrub on the stated body parts. However, you cannot use the body scrub on the face since it will damage the delicate skin. Body scrubs have slightly bigger granularity than the one for the face. Before applying the face scrub, wet or dampen the skin to prepare it for exfoliation.

    Put the Right Amount

Put the face scrub on the palm, depending on your product's package, and spread it evenly by rubbing your hands together for even application.

    Apply on the Face

Once the face scrub is evenly spread on the palms, apply it on the face using slight force but enough in a circular motion. Areas around the eyes should be avoided.

Rinse the Face and Pat Dry

When you apply the scrub to your satisfaction, thoroughly rinse it off using warm water, then pat the skin dry using a clean cloth or face towel.

    Conclusion

Since ancient times, men and women have been into skin care products since they want to maintain and have healthy skin. Lately, people have been into face masks since they know their vital role on the skin. However, they have neglected one routine in their skincare routine, which is exfoliation. Exfoliation is the process of scrubbing off dead cells on the skin using physical or chemical methods, for radiant, healthy skin. One should not avoid exfoliating their skin since face scrubs and masks support each other to achieve the best results. Consider exfoliating your skin with face scrubs and masks for glowing, healthy skin.
